New Year 2023: Welcome the New Year with these easy-to-accomplish resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are a tradition in which people make a promise to themselves to do something that will improve their lives or help them achieve a personal goal. These resolutions can be about anything, including health, relationships, career, personal growth, or hobbies. With so many grand resolutions floating around its important to put together a plan that works.

The history behind New Year

Approximately 4,000 years ago, Babylonians celebrated the beginning of their new year with an 11-day festival in March, and ancient Egyptians celebrated the beginning of their new calendar during the annual flood of the Nile River. By 46 B.C., Roman emperor Julius Caesar had changed the first day of the year to January 1 in honour of Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, an idea that took some time to catch on. However, Pope Gregory XIII restored the Jan. 1 New Year with the Gregorian calendar in 1582, a concept that is still in use today.

Making New Year’s resolutions is said to have originated with the Babylonians, who reportedly made promises to the gods to gain favour in the coming year. They frequently resolved to pay off their debts.

We often look at these resolutions as a checklist, not as something which will bring everlasting and positive changes in life. Be it Getting in shape or bettering one’s physical health, Eating a more nutritious diet, saving money or getting out of debt, getting rid of a bad habit, such as smoking or procrastination, taking up a new skill or hobby, volunteering or donating to the community, improving relationships or communication with family and friends or concentrating on personal development or self-care.

Focus on developing a healthy lifestyle by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly. Eating healthy foods will provide the body with the nutrients it requires, and regular exercise will keep one fit and active. Sleeping early at night and rising early in the morning can improve overall health. Those who enjoy outdoor activities should take precautions such as wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of fluids during summer days to avoid sunburns and dehydration.

  • Mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body)

Good mental health is essential for overall health and well-being and can affect every aspect of a person’s life. Life events, genetics, and individual characteristics can all have an impact on mental health. Make time for self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. This can include things like getting enough sleep, exercising, eating a healthy diet, and participating in activities that you enjoy. Build and maintain strong social connections: Making and maintaining strong social connections can help improve your mental health. To connect with others, reach out to friends and family, join a group or club, or volunteer. Stress is a natural part of life, but it can be detrimental to your mental health if not managed properly. Find ways to manage stress, such as through relaxation techniques, exercise, or by setting time and energy boundaries.

Seek professional help: If you are struggling with your mental health and are unable to find relief through self-care or other strategies, it is critical that you seek professional help. They can provide you with assistance and treatment to help you manage your symptoms and improve your overall health.

  • Spiritual wellbeing

A sense of meaning and purpose in life, as well as a connection to something larger than oneself, are examples of spiritual well-being. Personal beliefs, values, and relationships can all have an impact on it, and they can contribute to overall well-being. Some examples include attending services, participating in rituals, or reading sacred texts are examples of spiritual or religious practices, meditating or praying can help people gain a sense of calm and clarity, as well as connect with their inner selves and values, finding meaning and purpose: Some people find meaning and purpose through their work, while others find it through relationships, creative pursuits, or giving back to their communities and find peace and connection by spending time in nature, whether through activities like hiking, gardening, or simply spending time in a natural setting.

It is critical to discover what works best for you and to make time for activities that nourish your spiritual well-being. It is essential to set realistic goals for yourself and to plan how you will achieve them. Accountability can also be beneficial, such as finding a friend or family member to support you or sharing your goals with others for encouragement.
