“Education” has been long recognized as the foundation of human development, economic growth and innovation across the world. However, in the 21st century, the rapid advancement in the field of Artificial Intelligence has transformed the way knowledge is shared and acquired. Education, too, has witnessed this transformation, the concept of online classes has become widely accepted, enabling students from all part of the world to connect. It also provides AI powered summaries, flashcard quizzes, personalized learning trackers and instant academic support. For students who struggle to understand a concept in a traditional classroom, Generative AI acts as a 24/7 learning companion.

So, what exactly is Generative AI? Generative Artificial Intelligence is a branch of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as text, images, videos, music and computer code, by learning patterns from vast amounts of existing data.
In the field of education, it supports not only students but also teachers by generating lesson plans, quizzes and summaries. Moreover, it promotes visual and interactive learning through diagrams and illustrations, enabling students to understand complex concepts more effectively. Every student has a unique learning pace and style. Generative AI analyses a learner’s strengths and weaknesses to provide personalized explanations and practice.

One of the greatest advantages of using Generative AI in the field of education is that it provides instant feedback. Students can receive instant grading and an explanation for incorrect answers on their assignments. Generative AI can also make worksheets and pop quizzes based on the level of the student and can also provide additional material and memory aids which can help a student boost up his/her knowledge.

Generative AI also plays a significant role in making education more accessible for people living in underserved communities. It can translate learning materials into multiple languages, allowing students from different countries to translate them into their native language. Features such as text-to-speech and speech-to-text provide valuable support to students with visual or hearing disabilities. Generative AI can also help teacher to reduce their workload by assisting in the preparation of lesson plans, worksheets, assessments and classroom resources.
The growing influence of Generative AI in education has also been recognized by UNESCO, which states that Artificial Intelligence has the potential to address some of the biggest challenges in education and accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which the United Nation global goal to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.

According to UNESCO, AI can innovate teaching and learning practices while expanding access to knowledge, provided it is used with care. UNESCO emphasizes that these technologies should complement teachers rather than replace them, ensuring that human judgement, critical thinking and meaningful classroom interaction remain at the heart of education.

Generative AI is not only helping students but is also making teachers’ work easier. It assists teachers in preparing lesson plans, creating worksheets, grading assignments and organizing classroom resources. By reducing the time spent on these routine tasks, teachers can focus more on interacting with students, clearing their doubts and encouraging critical thinking and creativity. Instead of replacing teachers, Generative AI allows them to become better mentors and guides in the classroom.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that Generative AI has transformed education in many positive ways. It has made learning easier, more interactive and more accessible for students while also helping teachers save time and improve classroom learning. However, like every new technology, it must be used carefully and responsibly. The future of education does not lie in replacing teachers with AI but in allowing both to work together. Only then can we create a learning environment that is innovative, inclusive and truly beneficial for everyone.
