New Delhi, 2 September 2025
Elixinol Wellness Limited (ASX: EXL) has reported a narrowed net loss of AUD 3.09 million for the first half of 2025, while revenue rose 12.8% year-over-year to AUD 7.64 million. The results highlight the company’s ongoing recalibration toward long-term growth within Australia’s expanding wellness sector.
The Australian wellness industry, expected to grow at a compound annual rate of nearly 7%, provides fertile ground for Elixinol’s renewed focus on local markets and innovation. The company’s strategic shift away from international distribution toward strengthening its domestic portfolio marks a decisive step in its turnaround journey.
Strategic Realignment in Australia
Elixinol’s decision to terminate its U.S. distribution arrangement for The Healthy Chef underscores a sharper focus on its core Australian brands. Revenue in the second quarter surged 50% compared to the previous quarter, driven by the strong launch of The Healthy Chef Protein Water and deeper penetration into mainstream retail channels.
Core brands such as Hemp Foods Australia (HFA) and Mt Elephant provided stability. HFA sales held firm at AUD 2.4 million, while Mt Elephant experienced a rebound as product lines gained traction. This “house of brands” approach reflects the company’s emphasis on leveraging established consumer trust in the domestic market.
Operational Efficiencies and Margins
Gross margins improved from 35% to 37%, aided by stronger procurement practices and a favorable sales channel mix. E-commerce, a high-margin segment, accounted for 38% of total sales, a sharp increase from 21% a year earlier.
While adjusted EBITDA remained negative at AUD –2.2 million, management expressed confidence in cost optimization measures and synergies expected to materialize in the second half of the year.
Cash Flow and Financial Stability
Operational cash outflow was reduced to AUD –1.4 million, compared to AUD –2.1 million in the same period last year. Cash reserves at the end of June 2025 stood at AUD 1.087 million. However, auditors flagged net current liabilities of AUD 0.55 million, raising concerns about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern if profitability is not achieved as planned.
Innovation and Outlook
Looking ahead, Elixinol is betting on product innovation to drive future growth. Newly introduced offerings such as Protein Water and GLP-1 aligned supplements, alongside refreshed lines from Mt Elephant and Soul Seeds, are expected to boost both retail and online sales.
The company has set a target of achieving EBITDA break-even by 2026, with profitability projected to return as early as the fourth quarter of 2025.
Implications for India’s Wellness Market
For Indian wellness and nutrition brands, Elixinol’s performance offers critical lessons. Its pivot to focus on core markets, operational efficiency, and consumer-led innovation provides a roadmap for balancing growth ambitions with sustainable profitability.
As India’s wellness industry expands rapidly with increasing demand for functional foods, plant-based nutrition, and holistic health solutions, Elixinol’s journey serves both as inspiration and a reminder of the importance of disciplined strategy and financial prudence.
