Senior IAS Officers and Secretaries complete High-Level Workshop on How AI Can Help Transform Uttar Pradesh into a Trillion Dollar Economy by 2027

 Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – 20 March 2024 – Following the successful AI capacity building workshop for cabinet ministers and MLAs, a high-level workshop was organized for senior IAS officers and secretaries from various departments of the Uttar Pradesh government. Led by Dr. Subi Chaturvedi, a global AI leader and expert, the workshop provided policy makers and senior government officials with insights into AI governance frameworks, ethical considerations, and best practices for responsible AI deployment in government operations. The focus was to understand how AI could be leveraged to transform Uttar Pradesh into a trillion dollar economy by 2027. The AI framework for Uttar Pradesh “UPAI” was also unveiled at the exclusive session that will help guide the development and deployment of the artificial intelligence in an inclusive and responsible manner.


The session was presided over by Chief Secretary Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, and attended by the who’s who of UP policy makers including Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, ACS Agriculture; Shri Anurag Yadav, Secretary Planning; Smt Neha Jain, Special Secretary Department of IT, Dr. Hariom, Principal Secretary Social Welfare Department and several other secretaries and policy officials from the UP Government. Shri Durga Shankar Mishra applauded Dr. Subi Chaturvedi for the comprehensive workshop and asked all the departments to integrate AI into their vision, planning and daily work to increase efficiency and ensure transformative outcomes for the state.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Subi Chaturvedi, Global Senior Vice President, Chief Corporate Affairs and Public Policy Officer at InMobi, said, “AI in tremendously transformative, which means that it won’t only have direct impact on the users, rather, it will transform other sectors as well, resulting in exponential growth of the economy. Uttar Pradesh has the biggest potential for growth in the country and AI can definitely help fulfill that”.

She also emphasized the importance of AI governance in ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in government decision-making processes. She highlighted the role of AI in driving efficiency, innovation, and citizen-centric service delivery, underscoring the need for policymakers to stay abreast of AI advancements and their implications for governance. The workshop featured various applications and use cases of AI across sectors, including public service delivery, infrastructure planning, agriculture, education and healthcare, among others.

Dr. Subi Chaturvedi reiterated the importance of developing robust AI governance frameworks, such as the GUARDIAN framework introduced during the previous workshop, to safeguard consumer interests, protect privacy rights, and ensure accountability in AI-driven governance.

The workshop concluded with a call to action for senior officials to champion AI governance initiatives within their respective departments and collaborate with industry experts, academia, and civil society to promote responsible AI adoption and innovation in Uttar Pradesh.
