The impact of Artificial Intelligence on consumer behaviour in online retail.

Artificial intelligence has revolutionized so much that it is emerging as a rising force in the online retail industry. It is changing the meaning of online shopping experiences for consumers. AI is making things easier for the consumers by improving personalization, and simplifying their decisions so they can enhance their shopping experience. AI has become so advanced that it can analyze the consumer taste, preference, etc. by analyzing the data from their searches so that they can attract more consumers and make their experience satisfactory.

One of AI’s visible impacts in online retail is their customer service. With the use of virtual assistants and chatbots AI can solve thousands of queries of the consumers, helping and guiding them, and are available 24/7 ensuring that the customer support is fast and efficient. Some examples of AI- driven tools are, Dominos’s dom it helps consumers to place their order, track them, etc. Nike’s Stylebot helps consumers to find for them their perfect sneaker, check for the availability for their size, and check prices, etc. This tells how AI is making things easier and helping the consumers in the best way they can.

Another major area AI is making an impact is data-driven prediction and sales forecasting. Retailers  use these AI tools so that they can know what the consumers will want in the future based on the market trends, seasons, and purchase patterns. For example, Netflix’s data system helps them predict  what shows will be popular, and then forecast demand for related merchandise-like toys, collectibles, etc. Flipkart also uses predictive tools during festive seasons. They predict a massive rise during events like diwali, big billion day, and holiday sales. Their system predicts which products will spike so that they can stock their warehouses.

AI has also made an impact in visual and voice search technologies. Consumers can now just upload a  picture or tell verbally what they are looking for instead of typing. With these technologies, online shopping has become faster, simpler, and reliable. Some examples of these technologies are Amazon’s Alexa, with the help of it consumers can order what they want, track it, and check if some deal is available, etc. just by using simple voice commands. Google lens, with the help of this, consumers can share a photo of what they like- electronics, clothes, home decor, etc. and it will find similar products online.

Security is another major area in which AI has made an impact. As online transactions continue to grow, AI tools are used to detect fraud activities and make online payments more secure. For example PhonePe SafePay, it uses AI tools to check whether a payment is legitimate by checking user activity, typing behaviour, and login history. Swiggy AI fraud block, it uses AI to keep their platform safe from the misuse of repeated coupon misuse, or fake accounts made by the same user. This ensures consumers that these platforms are secure and their data is protected.

Moreover, AI has made a  huge impact by shaping consumer behaviour through social media and content creator recommendations. Platforms like instagram, youtube, snapchat, etc. uses AI tools to analyze consumers likings, user behaviour, etc. and then suggests products recommended by creators that match with what they like. For example Instagram shoppable posts , in this creators posts gadgets, beauty products, outfits, etc. with “Shop now” tag. Then AI pinpoints posts that appeal to the users and displays them in their feed. This encourages users  to buy that product and to discover it. Pinterest personalized boards, in this AI suggests pins based on users saves and searches, such as home decor items or DIY projects, nudging consumers toward relevant products.

Overall, AI has redefined the online retail industry by how consumers find, purchase products. Through personalized recommendations, AI chatboxes, data-driven prediction, secure transaction, and social media integration. It has made online shopping more convenient, faster and smarter. As AI continues to grow it will play even bigger roles in the future of consumer behaviour.
