Delhi Teen Dies by Suicide at Metro Station: Suicide Note Blames Teachers

A 16-year-old Class 10 student from a private school in New Delhi died by suicide by jumping from the platform of Rajendra Place Metro Station at around 2:34 pm on Tuesday.

The Incident

According to the Delhi Police, the boy left for school at around 7:15 am and later his father received a call that his son was found injured beneath the station’s concourse and subsequently rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead.

A suicide note was recovered from his school bag, in which the boy apologised to his mother and brother, expressed a wish to donate his organs, and blamed his school teachers and principal for repeated mental harassment.

Allegations of Harassment

The boy’s father has alleged that the student had been subjected to constant scolding, threats of transfer or expulsion, humiliation during class activities and physical aggression from teachers — claims that pointed to a pattern of emotional and mental harassment.

In one drama class incident, the boy reportedly fell and was mocked by a teacher who accused him of “over-acting”. The principal was present but did not intervene, the family says.

Legal Action & School Response

Based on the father’s complaint, police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. They are questioning school staff, classmates and reviewing the school’s complaint register.

The school has not yet issued a comprehensive statement, while parents and students have gathered outside demanding accountability.

Broader Implications

This incident throws a spotlight on critical issues:

                •             Student mental health and pressure in the education system

                •             The boundary between discipline and harassment in schools

                •             The role of educational institutions in recognising, acting on and preventing emotional distress among students

                •             The importance of complaint mechanisms that are accessible, impartial and trusted
