According to police officials, the girl was last seen on CCTV footage late on the evening of February 11, leaving her home after dinner without informing family members. A missing person report was filed, and her family offered a reward of ₹1 lakh for information that could lead to her location.
Investigators say that while searching her room, officers found a diary containing a chilling note. In the entry, she wrote, “Do not look for me. If you must, look near the cremation ground pond,” police said. Another passage in the diary asked her parents for forgiveness, with a reference to going to her grandfather. This note became a crucial lead, directing search teams toward the pond where her body was eventually found.
Responding to the tip, police, divers and local support teams gathered at the pond on Friday evening. It took nearly half a day to drain the water using multiple pumps. As the water level receded, her body was located stuck in the mud at the bottom. The deceased was wearing her school uniform at the time her body was recovered.
Senior police officials confirmed that the body was handed over to her family after an autopsy on Saturday under Section 193 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which governs investigations into unnatural deaths. Officers are still in the process of locating her mobile phone and reviewing additional CCTV footage to better understand the timeline of events leading up to her disappearance and death.
Locals described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking, noting that the student was considered bright and diligent in her studies. Her father works in a local court library, and she is survived by her parents and an elder brother.
