The global climate crisis is one of humanity’s most complex challenges. Rising emissions, biodiversity loss, and increasing natural disasters demand not only urgent action but innovative tools that can match the scale of the problem. 1 Artificial intelligence (AI), once confined to laboratories and theoretical models, has become a powerful ally in humanity’s effort to combat climate change. By transforming how we respond to environmental changes, AI is assisting in an innovative approach to a sustainable and resilient planet and is becoming one of the most powerful tools to combat Climate change. AI is revolutionizing the energy sector, the core of global emissions reduction efforts. Through machine learning algorithms and predictive models, AI systems can forecast energy demand, optimize grid distribution, and balance renewable sources like wind and solar. For instance, AI-dependent grid management now allows for more efficient integration of renewable energy, reducing waste, and improving stability. 2 Companies such as Protium Green Solutions are using AI to improve hydrogen production, making green hydrogen more economically practical, and accelerating the transition toward clean fuel technologies. Traditional climate models often struggle with the complexity of Earth’s systems. AI changes by utilizing massive environmental datasets generated by satellites, sensors, and climate stations. AI-enhanced predictive systems, such as IceNet and Google’s FloodHub, are already improving early warnings for floods, droughts, and sea ice changes. 3 This capability allows governments and organizations to make proactive, informed decisions, protecting communities and infrastructure before disasters strike. AI plays a growing role in ensuring sustainable food production and resource use. By combining IoT sensors, satellite imagery, and machine learning, farmers can improve irrigation, detect crop diseases early, and minimize pesticide use.

AI has proven out to be crucial for climate adaptation in addition to mitigation. AI models are being used to determine which communities are most vulnerable to droughts, wildfires, and sea level rise. AI-powered technologies assist in managing water resources for millions of people who depend on river systems in nations like India and monitoring glacial melt. In the same manner, urban resilience models employ AI to predict heat waves or flooding, allowing for advanced policy and infrastructure design. 5 International organizations such as the UNFCCC and ITU are leading initiatives like the AI for Climate Action Innovation Factory and the AI for Climate Action Forum 2025 to promote ethical, and high-impact AI projects. 6 These programs aim to empower developing countries which are most vulnerable to climate impacts, to build local capacity, and deploy AI responsibly in climate solutions. In India, AI tools are monitoring Glacial melts and river flows that ensures millions of freshwater supplies. 7 While promising, the integration of AI in climate strategies is not without hurdles. High energy demands for AI training, data scarcity in developing regions, and concerns over transparency and bias must be addressed. Efforts to develop energyefficient AI models and decentralized learning systems represent important steps toward greener and more equitable AI deployment. 8 AI alone will not solve the climate crisis, but it has already redefined the tools available to do so. AI is reshaping how we confront Climate Crises. By merging human ingenuity with artificial intelligence, society can unlock new pathways for decarbonization, resilience,
