IIT Roorkee and Samarkand State University Launch Joint Master’s Programme in Climate Change and Global Water Challenges

In a significant academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and Samarkand State University (SamSU) have announced the introduction of a joint master’s degree programme (JMDP) focused on climate change and global water challenges. This programme will be developed in partnership between IIT Roorkee’s Department of Hydrology and SamSU’s Department of Hydrometeorology, aiming to tackle pressing environmental issues. The joint initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Letter of Intent, signed by Prof. Khalmuradov Rustam Ibragimovich, Rector of SamSU, and Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee.

This collaborative effort addresses some of the most critical challenges facing the world today, such as water scarcity, climate change, and environmental degradation. The programme will provide students and faculty from SamSU with access to advanced expertise in water resource management, sustainability modeling, and the practical application of hydrological sciences. It is designed to equip learners with the tools necessary to address these global challenges effectively, ensuring they can contribute to sustainable solutions in their respective regions.

According to Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, this joint programme will enhance academic excellence and foster impactful research that addresses real-world issues related to water and the environment. Similarly, Prof. Ibragimovich emphasized that the partnership between the two institutions highlights their commitment to innovative education and research that will help solve urgent climate challenges. This collaboration promises to be a pivotal step in global efforts to mitigate environmental risks while also offering new opportunities for students and researchers alike.
