The Gemini mobile app from Google is now available in India and supports nine regional languages.

The GenAI chatbot Gemini’s mobile app, which now supports nine Indian languages in addition to English, has been released by tech behemoth Google in India.

The debut was announced on X by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google.

Wonderful news! We’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India today; it’s accessible in nine Indian languages in addition to English, said Pichai.

The Android app is powered by Google’s most recent generative AI model, Gemini 1.5 Pro, which was first announced in February.

According to a blog post by Google, “more people will be able to access information and complete tasks in their preferred language with the launch of nine Indian languages for both the Gemini app and Gemini Advanced, which gives users access to Google’s most capable AI models.”

According to the corporation, the app would be accessible in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. These nine regional languages will also be included by Google in Gemini Advanced.

With the Gemini mobile app, users can speak or text in supported languages, and they can even attach a picture to receive AI support.

But there isn’t a Gemini just for iOS. Over the next few weeks, Google will make Gemini access available to iOS users in India straight from the Google app, according to a blog post.

Additionally, Google declared that it has added new features to Gemini Advanced, including the ability to upload files and perform additional data analysis.

Additionally, the business is introducing the option to communicate with Gemini via Google Messages, first in English.

The creation coincides with the quick uptake and growth of GenAI technologies. Large companies like Google with Gemini, Microsoft with Copilot, and OpenAI with GPT-4o have opened up AI chatbots to a wider audience.

According to Inc42, the GenAI market in India is expanding rapidly and is expected to reach a value of over $17 billion by 2030.

Leading this massive shift are domestic AI businesses, such SarvamAI and Krutrim, helmed by Bhavish Aggarwal, which have recently secured millions of dollars in funding.

After earning $50 million in a funding round in January, Krutrim even became a unicorn.

Recently, Matrix Partners India led $1.5 million (about INR 12.5 crore) was raised by Mumbai-based GenAI startup GreyLabs AI as part of its seed fundraising round.

Vodex, a Bengaluru-based Gen AI SaaS business, raised $2 million (about INR 16 Cr) in April from Unicorn India Ventures and Pentathlon Ventures in a seed fundraising round.

The AI-powered martech startup Pixis raised $85 million in a Series C1 investment round headed by Touring Capital in November of last year.

According to Inc42 statistics, there are currently about 100 GenAI businesses based in India, and since 2019, these companies have raised a total of more than $600 million from investors.
