ECI announces schedule for by-elections to 7 Assembly seats in 6 states – details

The schedule for by-elections to 7 Assembly seats across 6 States was released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday. On November 3, there will be a by-election, and on November 6, the results will be announced. Andheri East in Maharashtra, Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Adampur in Haryana, Munugode in Telangana, Gola Gokrannath in Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar in Odisha are among the seven Assembly seats up for a by-election.

Here’s the detailed schedule for the by-elections –

The last date to file nominations is October 14.

The nominations would be scrutinised on October 15.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 17.

Polling will be held on November 3.

The counting of votes will take place and the results will be announced on November 6.

ECI added that these elections would involve the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs). In a statement, ECI Secretary Sanjeev Kumar Prasad stated that “enough numbers of EVMs and VVPATs (voter-verified paper audit trail) have been made available and all preparations have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted successfully with the help of these machines.

The primary document for confirming a voter’s identification will be their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or voter card, per ECI standards. Aadhar Cards, PAN Cards, and Driver’s Licenses are just a few examples of official identification documents that can be used for the same purpose.
