In a strategic move to enhance the dining experience for train passengers, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has recently announced its collaboration with Swiggy Foods. This partnership aims to facilitate the supply and delivery of pre-ordered meals through IRCTC’s e-catering portal.
As part of the initial phase, this innovative food delivery service will be introduced at key railway stations, namely Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. The move signifies a significant step toward offering passengers a convenient and diverse range of culinary options during their train journeys.
According to a BSE filing by IRCTC, the collaboration with M/s. Bundl Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (Swiggy Foods) is in line with Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The partnership is outlined as a Proof of Concept (PoC), demonstrating the potential of the e-catering service. The official statement notes that the eCatering service through Swiggy Foods may soon become available at the mentioned railway stations.
This strategic alliance between IRCTC and Swiggy comes at a time when the food delivery platform’s valuation has witnessed a substantial increase. Invesco, a US-based investment company, has reportedly raised Swiggy’s valuation to approximately $8.3 billion. This follows a previous valuation increase in October of the preceding year, where Swiggy’s value was pegged at about $7.85 billion.
The move not only addresses the evolving needs of train passengers but also aligns with the broader trends in the food delivery industry. With the increasing demand for convenient, on-the-go dining options, IRCTC’s partnership with Swiggy reflects a strategic response to cater to the diverse preferences of travelers.
The e-catering service, facilitated by Swiggy Foods, is expected to bring a seamless and efficient dining experience to train travelers, allowing them to pre-order meals and have them delivered directly to their seats. This initiative contributes to the overall enhancement of passenger services, offering a blend of technology and culinary convenience.
As the collaboration unfolds in the selected railway stations, it sets the stage for potential expansion to other locations, further optimizing the dining choices available to passengers across the Indian railway network.
‾IRCTC’s collaboration with Swiggy Foods marks a notable development in the railway catering landscape, aiming to redefine the culinary experience for train travelers. The PoC at specific railway stations lays the groundwork for a future where passengers can enjoy a diverse range of pre-ordered meals seamlessly delivered to their seats, showcasing the railway sector’s adaptation to evolving consumer preferences.
