Delhi Man Burnt Alive by Wife, No Arrests Even After Three Months

A horrifying case of domestic violence has emerged in Delhi, where 25-year-old Suraj was allegedly set on fire by his wife, Jyoti alias Kittu, on January 1, 2025. Three months have passed since the crime, yet Delhi Police have not arrested the accused, despite the Delhi High Court dismissing her anticipatory bail plea.

Journalist and men’s rights activist Deepika Bhardwaj has been actively raising concerns about the police inaction in the case. She has accused the Nangloi Police of being highly proactive when it comes to cases of women facing assault but completely ignoring cases where men are the victims. She highlighted that Suraj’s case is not an isolated incident and that many male victims of domestic violence struggle to get justice due to a systemic bias.

History of Allegations Against Jyoti

According to Bhardwaj, Jyoti has a disturbing history of filing false cases and manipulating the system. She has allegedly been married at least three times before and has filed multiple rape cases, including accusations against her senior citizen father-in-law (FIL) and brother-in-law (BIL) in her previous marriage. Furthermore, her previous husband had accused her of extortion and assault, but despite his complaints, the police refused to register an FIR.

Bias in Law Enforcement?

Bhardwaj criticized Delhi Police, especially the Nangloi Police Station, for their alleged selective approach to justice. She claimed that while the police swiftly act in cases where women file complaints, they turn a blind eye when men suffer extreme domestic violence. She questioned why Jyoti, despite having a well-documented history of misusing the legal system, has been able to evade arrest.

Had the roles been reversed, and a husband had set his wife on fire, he would have been behind bars within hours. Why is the system so slow when it comes to men being victims?” Bhardwaj tweeted, tagging @DelhiPolice, @ps_nangloi, @CPDelhi, and @DCPWestDelhi to demand immediate action.

Seeking Justice for Suraj

Bhardwaj has urged journalists and activists to bring attention to the case, emphasizing that Suraj’s life was brutally altered due to Jyoti’s actions, yet justice remains elusive. She has also offered to connect interested media professionals with Suraj directly to ensure his story is heard.

With growing outrage on social media and mounting pressure on law enforcement, the question remains: Will Delhi Police finally act, or will Suraj’s case be yet another instance of justice denied for male victims of domestic violence?
