Sada Nand Pandey of the department of Zoology, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been conferred the Rising Star Award of Asian Crystallographic Association (AsCA)by International Union of Crystallography (IUCr).
According to the BHU spokesperson, the award is presented to the emerging leaders in the field of crystallography in Asia and Oceania.
The award ceremony was recently held in Jeju Island, South Korea. Awardees are selected crystallographers from the subject areas- Physics, Chemistry,
Structural Biology and specialized techniques.
Pandey also delivered the award lecture on ‘Potassium-based partial inhibition of Lactoperoxidase’.
Lactoperoxidase (in this case was isolated from Himalayan Yak milk) is a natural antibacterial and antiviral protein, part of the innate immune system and its controlled therapeutic application is imperative to achieve the best balance between inflammatory responses and anti-microbial actions.
