Similarly, baked goods such as muffins or soufflés can end up dense or undercooked unless adapted specifically for air fryer use.

Foods with loose coatings or batters are another category that may not fare well. Because air fryers rely on airflow, lightweight batters can be blown around inside the basket, causing an irregular finish. In contrast, colder items with heavier coatings tend to stay in place and cook more predictably.

Another key factor is portion size. Overcrowding the air fryer basket can impede airflow, resulting in uneven cooking. It’s essential to place foods in a single layer with space around each piece to maximise crispiness. Larger cuts of meat may require preheating or slightly lower temperatures to ensure the interior cooks through without burning the exterior.

Understanding these nuances helps home cooks navigate the strengths and limitations of air fryers, making the most of this popular kitchen tool. Ultimately, success with an air fryer comes down to choosing the right foods and adapting recipes thoughtfully.
