“Transformative Collaboration: India, Bhutan, and Japan Unite for Education and Technology Advancement”

 

In a significant move, India, Bhutan, and Japan have taken strides to bolster their partnership in the education sector, emphasizing the pivotal role of Indian teachers in enhancing STEM pedagogy. This development underscores a broader collaboration encompassing digital technology, sports, and space cooperation, marking a new era of mutual growth and innovation.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan embarked on an official visit to India from March 14 to 18 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit, Prime Minister Tobgay’s first overseas engagement since assuming office in January 2024, symbolizes the deepening ties and shared aspirations between the two nations.

During the visit, discussions centered on enhancing STEM education, with a focus on the invaluable contributions of Indian teachers in Bhutan. Both India and Bhutan expressed their commitment to fostering vibrant people-to-people interactions, laying the foundation for collaborative endeavors in various sectors.

The joint statement issued following the visit highlighted the mutual desire to strengthen ties in emerging areas such as digital technology, start-ups, and STEM initiatives. Bhutan acknowledged India’s support in developing sports infrastructure, reflecting a shared commitment to youth and sports development.

Furthermore, the partnership between India and Bhutan in space technology received recognition, with recent collaborations including technical capacity-building programs facilitated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Concessionary Financing underscores India’s commitment to supporting Bhutan’s youth through skilling and leadership programs.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s steadfast partnership with Bhutan in its journey towards becoming a high-income nation, aligning with Bhutan’s vision and priorities. The exemplary friendship between the two nations was hailed as a source of strength, fostering regional stability and cooperation.

During the visit, Prime Minister Tobgay engaged in discussions with President Droupadi Murmu and held substantive talks with Prime Minister Modi, encompassing a wide range of bilateral cooperation and regional issues. Additionally, key Indian ministers, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy Shri RK Singh, met with Bhutan’s leadership, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepening collaboration across sectors.

This significant development underscores the evolving dynamics of regional partnerships and the shared vision for a more interconnected and prosperous future.
