Massive Dating App Scandal Uncovered: 40 Duped by Former Event Managers
In a shocking revelation, the crime branch of Pune reported on Monday that a woman from Uttarakhand and her companion from Delhi, both former event managers, had swindled approximately 40 unsuspecting individuals through dating app frauds since 2022. The perpetrators, Kavita alias Pooja Bhat (27) and Nitesh Singh (25), had primarily targeted people in Pune district, among other places.
Senior Inspector Bharat Jadhay, from the social security cell of the crime branch, shed light on the con artists’ modus operandi. He detailed that they were apprehended from Mira Road near Mumbai and subsequently brought to Pune for further legal action on October 29.
Victims, fearing defamation and family disturbance, have been hesitant to file complaints against Bhat and Singh. Despite this, the authorities have successfully frozen the duo’s bank accounts, which held over Rs 50.61 lakh, and have recovered some cash from the woman.
Senior Inspector Meenal Patil of the Pune Cyber Police, in a public advisory, urged caution when using dating apps. Before entering into any relationship, she advised, one should insist on meeting in person and verify the credentials of their virtual friends.
As the investigation continues, the authorities are working tirelessly to support the victims and encourage them to come forward, assuring them of the confidentiality and integrity of the legal process. These efforts are instrumental in the ongoing investigation, providing the victims with a sense of safety and assurance in these trying times
