Indian Institute of Science, Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development at IISc and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited have partnered to set up a Center of Excellence in Cyber Security in Power Transmission and Grid Operations.
It will be a nodal center and a think-tank with cyber security experts.
A statement from IISc said academia, national research and development laboratories and industry will work together to address cyber security concerns related to power grids.
K Srikanth, CMD, Power Grid Corporation said that in today’s digital age, cyber security is critical in transmission and grid operations.The development of robust defences against cybersecurity is of paramount importance in maintaining a reliable power supply.
Continuous and collaborative research involving academia and industry for the development of cyber resilient systems as well as capacity building is the need of the hour towards creating a safe and secure grid, Srikanth further added in his statement.
“POWERGRID is committed to provide an amount of Rs 119.02 crore over the next 10 years and will also depute its industry experts to this center to promote research in this area,” Srikanth said.
